what are general conference word tags? well, a tradition that my family has, and one that many other people have, is to set out a few bowls of small candies for our kids (and ourselves!) to enjoy during general conference. each candy bowl has a word assigned to it and if they’re listening to the talks they may hear one of those words. when they do, they get to enjoy one of the candies from that word’s bowl! the trick is to make sure you’re listening or you won’t hear the words and therefore will not get any of the candies.
some of our favorite candies to use are reese’s pieces, skittles, m&ms, little gumballs, mike & ike’s, jelly beans, etc.
every conference session, my kids come up with the words they want to assign to the bowls. they think about what types of words will be popular during general conference – because then they will get the most candy! – and this time around i think they’ve done a really good job!
here are the words they came up with:
church, jesus christ, love, kindness, scriptures, service, and temple.
i added a few more suggestions for them and created these printable tags that they can cut out, fold, and display in front of their candy bowls. they have enough options that they’ll be able to swap them out depending on what words they think will be successful for that session.
